WordSouth is pleased to announce longtime partner Wiregrass Electric Cooperative recently garnered two major National Rural Electric Cooperative Association communication awards for projects with which WordSouth assisted.
Wiregrass Electric, based in Hartford, Alabama, captured one Gold and one Silver award in the NRECA’s 2020 Spotlight on Excellence competition. The contest judges the communication efforts of more than 900 electric cooperatives nationwide.
Wiregrass Electric has won at least one Spotlight on Excellence honor for 14 consecutive years. WordSouth has worked with WEC for 14 years. During that time, WordSouth has assisted WEC in the production of its annual member reports, local content for Alabama Living magazines, a website, social media and a wide variety of marketing materials.
“Wiregrass Electric is one of the most progressive cooperatives in the nation, and it has been an honor to be part of their communications team for the past 14 years,” said Stephen V. Smith, WordSouth president and CEO. “Keeping members informed is one of the founding principles of cooperatives, and these national awards shinea spotlight on the outstanding job WEC’s team does every day to connect with those who depend on them for vital energy services.”
Wiregrass Electric captured a Gold award for Best External News Publication for the local content created for Alabama Living, a monthly publication all of its members receive.
WEC also earned a Silver award for “Best Special Publication — Small” for a brochure that promoted NRECA’s Youth Tour program. Youth Tour teaches high school juniors leadership, historical perspective and character development skills through visits to important sites in their states and in Washington, D.C. Using guidance from Wiregrass Electric’s leadership and marketing personnel, WordSouth’s talented team crafted well-written content and presented it with stunning, eye-catching designs.
WordSouth’s attention to detail and creativity have also been recognized through the honors other clients have accumulated in the company’s 24 years of service to the telco and electric cooperative industries. In total, WordSouth’s work has helped earn clients more than 35 national awards in the last 15 years.
“Our communication efforts aim to keep our members educated, informed and knowledgeable about their cooperative,” said Brad Kimbro, Wiregrass Electric’s chief operating officer. “Being selected as a Spotlight on Excellence winner is an indication that we are on the right track. We could not do what we do without WordSouth.”
